The Leavenworth to Wenatchee run is the valley epilogue of the Stevens Pass drive, twenty three miles down the Wenatchee River through Peshastin, Dryden, and Cashmere into the city at the Columbia. It is easy, pretty driving in orchard country, and it completes the corridor: most Stevens Pass trips either start or end with this stretch, and the valley towns along it are where east side drivers check the summit status before committing to the climb home.
Leavenworth to Peshastin, out of the Bavarian village and across the river into orchard country.
Peshastin to Cashmere through Dryden, the wide green valley bottom, US 2 joining US 97 at Cashmere.
Cashmere to Wenatchee through Monitor, descending to the Columbia River bridges.
Do not let the valley fool you in winter: freezing fog parks over this stretch on clear cold mornings when the summit is in bright sun, and the bridges into Wenatchee ice early. Westbound drivers should read the status at the top of this site before leaving Wenatchee, not at Leavenworth, because the last easy services and the last good cell coverage on the climb sit in the valley, not the canyon.
How long does the Leavenworth to Wenatchee drive take?
